Urgent Care For Foot & Ankle Issues

University Foot offers urgent care for sprained ankles, foot wounds, broken bones, and other conditions. If you have been injured playing sports, twisted your ankle, or had a fall, it is best to be checked out by a podiatrist to ensure no further damage is done and you can recover as quickly as possible.

Bunions and hammer toes

A bunion is a bony bump that forms at the joint at the base of your big toe. Bunions typically occur or grow when the bones in the front part of your foot move out of place, making the big toe bend toward the other toes.

A hammer toe is a toe with an abnormal bend or deformity in the middle joint, typically causing the toe to point downward.

Both concerns can be treated by non-surgical and surgical means.

Ingrown toenails and fungal nails

Nail disorders such as ingrown toenails or fungal nails caused by a fungal infection are very common and in most cases can be treated quickly and easily by a Podiatrist.

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the band of the connective tissues underneath the foot. This is a very common ailment which is typically caused or exacerbated by sports and unsupportive shoes which allow for overextension of the foot.  Treatment often starts with over-the-counter pain medicines and may include shoe inserts known as Orthotics. Depending on the condition of the foot, surgical treatment may also be an option.

Heel pain

A common cause of heel pain is heel spurs, a buildup of calcium at the bottom of your heel bone. You can get them from wearing improper shoes or putting too much pressure on your feet. Heel pain can typically be resolved through medical attention.

Arthritis

Arthritis causes inflammation, wear and tear, and swelling on your joints. Each foot has 33 joints. A podiatrist can recommend physiotherapy, drugs, splints, or special shoes to help with your arthritis. Surgery may also be an option if non-surgical treatments don’t work well for you.

Neuroma, Neuropathy

Nerve problems are also known as Neuroma. It is a type of nerve problem between the bones of your foot that can cause burning, pain, and a feeling that there’s something in your shoe. Nerve pain may be common among runners and can be made worse by tight shoes and overpronation. A Podiatrist can prescribe medication for inflammation and pain.  Surgical treatment may also be recommended.

Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition in which your body doesn’t make or process an element called insulin which helps the body to digest sugar. Diabetes can damage the nerves in your legs or feet, and may cause issues with circulation leading to pain or absence of feeling in the foot (neuropathy) if not properly treated. A Podiatrist can help prevent foot complications if you have diabetes. Make sure to get any sore or callus on your feet examined and properly treated.

Fractures and sprains

Fractures and sprains are common problems treated by our team. These include normal ankle and foot injuries that are related to the bones. We also work in sports medicine, treating foot problems faced by many athletes.

Highly recommend!!!! I was evaluated by Dr. Nasser for my bunion pain. Over the years I have tried different orthotics and inserts which worked initially, but as time went on the pain had gotten much worse. After discussing my options with Dr. Nasser I decided to have bunion surgery. The surgery went well and I no longer have pain!!!!!

Dr. Nasser corrected two hammertoes for me. They healed beautifully (as if they were never operated on) and my pain is gone. Would highly recommend.

The new doctor at this practice, Dr. Audey Nasser, really is the ideal podiatrist. Not only is he an extraordinarily talented surgeon, he is a genuinely good person who knows how to put the patient first -- unfortunately, a trait that seems far too rare these days. After seeing him myself, I felt perfectly comfortable trusting my mother in his care. You will be treated like a family member.

Dr. Short was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I am very happy with my experience and am healing well from the procedure. Pain was managed very well and all was explained in advance of the procedure. I would highly recommend seeing Dr. Short.

As an RN, I highly recommend Dr. Lawrence Short. I feel he is very thorough and has been successful in treating my foot conditions - an occupational issue of nurses! The long term success of my treatment speaks volumes.
