Foot Conditions We Treat
At University Foot Associates we treat a wide range of foot and ankle problems. Our Board Certified doctors offer advanced conservative and surgical management if required.
Urgent Care For Foot & Ankle Issues
University Foot offers urgent care for sprained ankles, foot wounds, broken bones, and other conditions. If you have been injured playing sports, twisted your ankle, or had a fall, it is best to be checked out by a podiatrist to ensure no further damage is done and you can recover as quickly as possible.
Bunions
A bunion is a bony bump that forms at the joint at the base of your big toe. Bunions typically occur or grow when the bones in the front part of your foot move out of place, making the big toe bend toward the other toes. Bunion treatment is needed to relieve pain.
Hammertoe
A hammer toe is a toe with an abnormal bend or deformity in the middle joint, typically causing the toe to point downward.
If non-surgical, conservative treatments are unsuccessful, hammertoe surgery may be necessary.
Ingrown toenails and fungal nails
Nail disorders such as ingrown toenails or fungal nails caused by a fungal infection are very common and in most cases can be treated quickly and easily by a Podiatrist. Treatment for ingrown toenails can include medication and laser therapy.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the band of the connective tissues underneath the foot. This is a very common ailment which is typically caused or exacerbated by sports and unsupportive shoes which allow for overextension of the foot. Plantar Fasciitis treatment often starts with over-the-counter pain medicines and may include Orthotics shoe inserts. Shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis is a new, very effective treatment that we offer in-office for persistent cases.
Heel pain
A common cause of heel pain is heel spurs, a buildup of calcium at the bottom of your heel bone. You can get them from wearing improper shoes or putting too much pressure on your feet. Heel pain can typically be resolved with medication or physical therapy. Shockwave therapy is also a great option for heel pain treatment.
Arthritis
Arthritis causes inflammation, wear and tear, and swelling on your joints. Each foot has 33 joints. A podiatrist can recommend physiotherapy, drugs, splints, or special shoes to help with your arthritis. Surgery may also be an option if non-surgical treatments don’t work well for you.
Neuroma, Neuropathy
Nerve problems are also known as Neuroma. It is a type of nerve problem between the bones of your foot that can cause burning, pain, and a feeling that there’s something in your shoe. Nerve pain may be common among runners and can be made worse by tight shoes and overpronation. A Podiatrist can prescribe medication for inflammation and pain. Surgical treatment may also be recommended.
Diabetes
Diabetes can damage the nerves in your legs or feet, and may cause issues with circulation leading to pain or absence of feeling in the foot (neuropathy) if not properly treated. Regular visits to the Podiatrist can help prevent foot complications with diabetes. Make sure to get any sore or callus on your feet examined and properly treated.
Fractures and sprains
Fractures and sprains are common problems treated by our podiatry team in Gurnee, IL. These include normal ankle and foot injuries like sprains, as well as Achilles tendon injury, ankle fractures, and wound care. We also work in sports medicine, treating foot problems faced by many athletes.
